About
Best Medicine is a one-stop hub for House Craft Burgers in London, Ontario. No likes. No ads. No doomscroll. Get the information, see the burgers, find the menu, read the blog—whatever. Beautiful, organized silence.
The Owners
In 2021, Dan and Kristen both hung up the hats of their respective 10+ year careers doing boring, inconsequential stuff they didn't like and launched a burger pop-up because Dan thought he could probably make a pretty good one and Kristen is an organizational wizard. It began as Tales From the Grill—just Dan, Kristen, a $500 folding barbecue, a spatula a couple of sauce bottles nestled snugly in the back of a Ford EcoSport. They primarily tented up at craft breweries throughout London, Toronto and anywhere in-between. People mostly asked them for tacos, which they didn't make, so they changed the name to Box Lunch Burger Company thinking maybe people would clock that they didn't do tacos. That didn't help, they were still asked for tacos.
They were BLBC for a while, graduated from popping up to serving exclusively out of Storm Stayed Brewing Company's loading door somewhere in 2022, and by late 2023 found that they were too busy, too small, under-ventilated, getting too sexy too fast, and needed a bigger cage to survive. So they packed up their shit, signed a bad lease in the very old, decrepit and possibly haunted 640 Richmond—which looks like a little house even though it was never a house—and initiated the final phase: House (or House Craft Burgers).
"I love my movies! I make them for me, everyone else is invited."
— Quentin Tarantino
The Food
Our core style is gnarly, cheesy, tangy, crispy, saucy smashed beef callbacks to 80/90s fast food flavour (McDonald's on steroids as one reviewer once put it) + some strange and unusual experiments rotating on occasional special. We make food we like and just hope you dig it, too. No ketchup burgers unless you're a kid, kids get a pass.
6 ounces of fresh beef is smashed into two scattershot 3 ounce patties. Both are cheesed so all that gooey orange gold oozes through the beefy gaps and holes of both patties, effectively melding beef and cheese as one. All burgs are dressed bottom, centre and top uniformly, so every zesty pickle and crisp onion makes a proportionate appearance no matter how many beefs you stack. If the sauce isn't drizzling down your palms as you gobble we didn't make it right. We only make messy burgers. If you don't want to get your hands dirty, eat a carrot.
The Mission
Serve great burgers. Be happy. Make others happy. Pay the bills. Make more burgers. Don't go out of business. We're two people just trying to make a living, raise some kids, get to the next day, maybe make a buck here and there to vacation next to a lake for a few days once a year, and carve out a little crumb of our own on this chaotic rock. Can't ask for more.
